The Autumn Equinox is one of those rare moments in the year when nature pauses in perfect balance. Day and night are equal before the scales tip into the darker half of the year. It’s a threshold moment — not quite summer, not yet winter. A pause between what has been and what is yet to come.
We all move through our own “equinox” moments in life. Sometimes they arrive gently, like the changing of the seasons. Other times, they burst in unexpectedly, demanding that we step across the threshold, whether we feel ready or not. Life Transitions, such as menopause, retirement, becoming a parent, starting a new career, moving home, leaving a relationship, or even entering a time of spiritual awakening, each represent a shift, a rebalancing, a call to meet ourselves in a new way.
These life transitions are rarely straightforward. They carry with them a tangle of emotions: joy and grief, excitement and uncertainty, hope and fear. They can stir up questions of identity, belonging, and purpose. Who am I now? What am I becoming? What am I leaving behind?
The Autumn Equinox reminds us that balance isn’t about freezing things in place. It’s about learning how to hold both sides — light and dark, old and new, loss and growth — with as much presence and grace as we can.
Recognising and navigating these Life Transitions can lead to profound personal growth.

The Nature of Life Transitions
Change often asks us to let go of a familiar version of ourselves. Menopause, for example, can feel like the closing of one chapter, yet it also offers the possibility of new freedom, wisdom, and power. For practical guidance and support, resources such as Menopause Matters can be a valuable companion.
Retirement may bring the grief of leaving behind a career, but also the spaciousness to rediscover passions or create fresh rhythms—something the Centre for Ageing Better explores beautifully in their work on later-life wellbeing.
When we start a family, move to a new place, or step into a new role, we often carry both anticipation and trepidation. These are threshold moments, doorways we cross that alter the shape of our lives.
In my own work, I see again and again how these moments are both tender and powerful. They are rarely about “fixing” something that is broken. Instead, they are invitations to realign, rebalance, and step into a deeper truth.
Archetypes for Change: Seeker → Creator → Guide
For many years, people have used the Maiden–Mother–Crone archetype to describe life’s stages. But as beautiful as it is, it doesn’t speak to everyone. It’s rooted in gendered imagery and tied to fertility in a way that can feel exclusive.
A more inclusive and fluid way of understanding these cycles is through the archetypes of Seeker, Creator, and Guide. These three aren’t about gender or biology — they are energies we all embody at different times in our lives.
Seeker → This is the energy of beginnings. It’s the curiosity of a child, the bravery of the first step, the openness to the unknown. The Seeker appears when we set out on a new path, ask big questions, or allow ourselves to wonder “what if?”
Creator → This is the energy of building and sustaining. It’s where we nurture relationships, shape careers, raise children, tend to communities, or cultivate creative projects. The Creator shows up when we dedicate ourselves to something that matters deeply.
Guide → This is the energy of wisdom and reflection. The Guide knows endings are also beginnings. This archetype gathers the fruits of experience and offers them as guidance, a story, or an example to others. It can appear at retirement, elderhood, or simply at times when we find ourselves mentoring and sharing what we’ve learned.
These three archetypes are not rigid life stages. We can move through them many times, in different ways, at various ages. A person in their 20s may be a Guide in one part of their life and a Seeker in another. What matters is recognising which energy you are moving through in this particular transition.
Finding Balance During Life Transitions
The challenge with life transitions is that they can feel destabilising. We know one part of our life is shifting, but the new shape hasn’t yet fully formed. We’re in the in-between — what some traditions call “the liminal space.”
Balance in these moments doesn’t mean keeping everything equal. It means finding a centre you can return to when the winds of change blow strongly. A few gentle practices can help:
Grounding rituals → simple daily practices, like placing your feet on the earth, holding a crystal, or taking a few slow breaths, help remind your body that you are safe even in change.
Journaling → writing out your feelings, fears, and hopes helps make sense of the swirl. It also enables you to notice patterns and insights that might otherwise be missed.
Energy healing → Reiki and other healing therapies create a space of deep rest and restoration, helping you reconnect with your own inner balance.
Community support → speaking with others who have walked similar paths reminds us we’re not alone, and helps us learn from those who’ve crossed the threshold before.
How My Work Supports Life Transitions
Much of my work is about holding space for people in times of change. Whether someone comes for Reiki Healing, a Shamanic Healing Journey, or some Soulful Life Coaching, the intention is always the same: to help them reconnect with their inner steadiness while moving through the uncertainty of transition.
Reiki Healing → calms the nervous system, reduces stress, and restores energy flow so the body and mind feel more balanced. Perfect for moments when emotions are overwhelming or sleep is disrupted by change.
Crystal Healing & Jewellery → crystals can act as companions through transition, carrying qualities like protection, grounding, clarity, or courage. Wearing jewellery made with intention keeps that support close.
Shamanic Healing → offers tools for navigating thresholds, connecting with inner guides, and calling back our power, our lost parts of self.
Soulful Life Coaching → provides a safe space to explore identity shifts, clarify what matters most, and take aligned steps into a new chapter.
These therapies aren’t about rushing the process. They’re about supporting you so you can move through these life transitions with greater ease, balance, and trust.

Closing Reflection
The Autumn Equinox teaches us that balance is always possible, even in the midst of change. Just as the Earth holds both day and night in equal measure, we too can learn to hold our own complexity — the joy and the sorrow, the past and the future, the endings and the beginnings.
Whatever transition you may be moving through — menopause, retirement, parenthood, a new job, or a shift in your inner world — remember that it is a natural part of life’s rhythm. You are not leaving something behind so much as stepping into a new version of yourself.
Crossing thresholds is never easy, but it is always sacred. And with the right support, you can find your own balance, even in the in-between. If you’d like to learn more about how my work can help you navigate life transitions, I offer a free 30 minute no obligation discovery call.
