The Sacral Chakra

by Energy Anatomy

How deeply do you connect with yourself and others?

In this blog, I’m going to explore the Sacral Chakra. What it is and what signs and situations could indicate the state of your Sacral Chakra, and of course, some tips on what to do if you think your Sacral Chakra is unbalanced.

What is the Sacral Chakra?

The Sacral Chakra, known as Svadhisthana, is the second of seven major chakras, located below the navel in the centre of your lower tummy. Someone whose Sacral Chakra is balanced feels connected with their sensual and sexual energy. They are comfortable with many forms of sensual and creative expressions. This person can be passionate and emotionally balanced. They can experience meaningful connections and intimacy with others.

The Sacral Chakra is also connected to gut instinct. Similarly to the Third Eye, those with a balanced Sacral Chakra will be more deeply connected to their intuition and receptive to creative inspiration.

Sacral Chakra - Self Expression

What can cause your Sacral Chakra to be imbalanced?

Traumatic sexual experiences and negative beliefs around sex and sexuality are a common cause of imbalance in the Sacral Chakra.

Negative conditioning around sexual, creative, and passionate expression may also lead to imbalances in this chakra.

In fact, many who express themselves in unusual or different ways to ‘average’ have been tormented and victims of hateful attitudes and behaviours for hundreds of years. As a result, it’s not uncommon to be raised with ideas of what ‘normal’ is and to be chastised for exploring beyond those perceived ideas.

The Water Element

Like our oceans, this chakra is subject to the ebb and flow of nature and life. So it is natural for us to have peaks and troughs in our sexual, sensual and creative expression. A sign of imbalance comes when we consistently suppress this aspect of ourselves, or sometimes the opposite occurs, and we can be excessively sexual and expressive. Someone who is ‘overcompensating’, for example, is usually a result of something else being repressed. Erratic swings in sexual mood or emotions can also indicate an imbalance in this chakra.

Physical Conditions

The Sacral Chakra is associated with the Ovaries and the Testes. This means hormonal changes such as puberty, pregnancy, or menopause may affect the Sacral chakra; how much will depend on other factors. Naturally occurring hormonal changes are just that natural; the state of your Sacral chakra may play a role in how well those changes are managed. The bladder, prostate and womb are also connected to this chakra. So problems in these areas may connect with the Sacral Chakra, but that’s not to say it is always the case.

Noticeable signs of an unbalanced Sacral Chakra:

Impotence or Frigidity

Imbalanced sex drive

Feeling Isolated

Difficulty in making meaningful connections with others

Being emotionally unstable

A belief that you don’t deserve to have fun and be happy

Feeling guilty doing things for yourself.

A belief that you deserve to be unhappy, that maybe this is your punishment for something.

Always putting others before yourself.

Here’s what we can do to support our Sacral Chakra.

Connecting with Water

Water is the chakra’s element, so being in or around water can be very beneficial and healing.

Movement

Get your body moving, preferably in a free, unrestrained way such as dance, but all movement is excellent for the Sacral Chakra.

Creativity

Take up a creative hobby or connect more with the one you currently have. Creativity doesn’t have to be something you share with the world or something you have to have a talent for. It is simply a chance to start expressing yourself and can be a safe way to do so.

Reiki

I’m going to mention this with every chakra because, basically, Reiki is about bringing your whole energy, including your chakras, into balance. That’s not to say that you won’t need additional support for some of the issues underpinning an imbalance in your energy body.

Diet

Check that you are getting plenty of fluids, being dehydrated is more common today than ever. This means the right sort of fluids, pure mineral water being supreme. I find eating lots of fresh fruits also help us to be more hydrated. Eating whole fruits is better for us than drinking juices, especially as juices have a higher glycemic index. An excess of high GI foods and fluids tends to increase hormonal imbalances in the body. If you are struggling with hormonal issues, you may like to look into your diet further. For a Low GI diet, I recommend Rick Gallops Books.

EFT

Gary Craig, the founder of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), sometimes referred to as Tapping, believes it can help with anything. It has been shown to help with recovery from PTSD and Trauma. I mentioned this last time, and like Reiki, it’s an excellent place to start with any issues mentioned above. You can find out how to do EFT on yourself here: The EFT Basic Recipe by Founder Gary Craig – YouTube

Crystals

The orange crystals tend to be excellent crystals for the Sacral Chakra also those that range into deep orange to red or light orange to yellow crystals. Carnelian, Fire Agate, Citrine are common stones used for this chakra, but there are many others. If you would like to look at my handcrafted jewellery, I recommend the ‘Phoenix’ collection for balancing your Sacral Chakra. If you fancy something made using a unique combination that fits your needs, just get in touch using the form below.

Therapy

Not every energy imbalance is going to need therapy. Still, equally, not everything will resolve as quickly as it could, with energy work alone. So if you’ve been struggling for a while with any of the above, it is definitely worth chatting with me and seeing if therapy would benefit you.

I hope you have found that helpful. If you have any questions, pop them in the comments below. You may also be interested in the Chakra Quiz; this can give you a rough idea of the state of each of your chakras.

Next month I’ll be discussing the Solar Plexus Chakra. If you are not already subscribed, sign up now; at the end of the Chakra series, I’ll provide a free Chakra Balancing MP3 to Subscribers. You’ll also get a £20 discount on my therapy services or workshops.
