Are you fully embracing your personal power?
The next in this blog series is the Solar Plexus Chakra. We will explore the signs and situations that could indicate the current state of your Solar Plexus Chakra. Plus, some tips on what to do if you think your Solar Plexus Chakra shows an imbalance.
What is the Solar Plexus Chakra?
The Solar Plexus Chakra, known as Manipura, is the third of seven major chakras, located between the navel and the base of the sternum. Someone whose Solar Plexus Chakra is balanced is comfortable being uniquely themselves while still maintaining healthy connections with others and the world around them. They are confident and capable of embracing their power and manifesting their most aligned life. A well balanced Solar Plexus means you can enjoy being spontaneous and be uninhibited without being reckless.
What can cause your Solar Plexus Chakra to be imbalanced?
During my 20 years as a therapist and Reiki Practitioner, this is the chakra that most commonly needs attention. At the heart of most issues is a lack of self-love, self-esteem, self-belief and self-worth, all indicators of an imbalance in the solar plexus. We cannot step into our personal power when we don’t rate ourselves as worthy or capable.
People with an imbalance in the Solar Plexus can find themselves in abusive or bullying relationships or partnerships. This can occur in the workplace as well as in the home. They may find their self-effacing nature is often taken advantage of, and they are easily manipulated.
An imbalance in this chakra usually starts to show itself around the teenage years and early adult life. This is when we are developing our sense of identity. We are not born without self-belief, self-worth, or self-esteem. This is usually the result of childhood experiences and can range from a few poorly chosen words that cut more deeply than intended. Interactions with others that may have been misunderstood by our young minds or outright abuse and bullying. Then we hit high school, and all our worries of not being loveable or good enough are reinforced by the endless struggles of teen life.
Many people struggle with personal power and self-esteem. If not as a consistent way of being in the world, certainly at varying intervals in our lives. Everyone struggles; some hide it better than others, and more people hide it than you might realise.
Signs of imbalance in the Solar Plexus:
Being overly concerned with what others think
Fearful of being alone
Needing constant reassurance
Giving your power to others
Don’t like to be seen
Taking power from others
Inappropriate or excessive anger
Overly sensitive to criticism
The Solar Plexus Chakra is associated with the Digestive System, the muscles, pancreas, and adrenals. Therefore, physical signs of imbalance may include issues in these areas such as stomach ulcers, fatigue, weight gain around the stomach, allergies, diabetes, and other digestive disorders relating to the stomach.
Here’s what we can do to support our Solar Plexus Chakra.
Saviour a beautiful day by putting time aside for yourself in your diary. It can be a couple of hours up to an entire day. Start building up the habit of giving to yourself, nourishing, and caring for yourself. The element of the Solar Plexus is Fire, and the colour is yellow. So, buy yourself some beautiful yellow flowers, and light a yellow candle. Sit with yourself and do your favourite things.
Yoga or Alexander Technique
The mind and body are connected; if you smile, you can’t help but feel a little better. If you stand taller, you can’t help but feel a little more confident. Both Yoga and the Alexander Technique can help you adjust your posture, open up to the world, and embrace your personal power.
As before, I’m suggesting Reiki or any energy healing technique that can help bring your Chakra System into a place of balance and harmony. Reiki fundamentally is about stripping back what is not true and what is not you and allowing your best, most authentic self to shine through.
Check that you are getting a variety of complex carbohydrates in your diet. Over the years, carbs have had a bad rep, but some complex carbs are essential to a well-balanced, healthy diet. These are unrefined, unprocessed carbs that are high in fibre, such as whole grains, beans, peas, pulses, and vegetables.
Gary Craig, the founder of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), sometimes referred to as Tapping, believes it can help with anything. It has been shown to help with recovery from PTSD and Trauma, and I certainly think it could help with any causes I listed above. Crystals can be great tools that can help balance your energy and remind you daily of your intentions. Generally, the golden, yellow, orange to red crystals tend to balance the Solar Plexus Chakra.
